Opting Out
CADRE is a database of de-identified electronic records from health, social care and education. It uses a software tool called CRATE (Clinical Records Anonymisation and Text Extraction), which removes information that might identify a patient (e.g. names, addresses, exact dates of birth, NHS and hospital numbers, names of family members).
How we Anonymise Data
CADRE, like many other medical record databases, works on an opt-out basis. This means that electronically recorded information about children up to the age of 17, recorded in one of the CADRE sites in either a health, education, or social care context, will be included in the CADRE database, unless their parents or guardian opt-out for them. .
What to do if you don’t want your data included in the CADRE database
If you would like to opt out either personally, or on behalf of your child, contact us directly. If a young person opts out directly, or their guardian opts out on their behalf, their data will not be used in the database. If you have previously opted out through the national data opt-out, your NHS data will not be used in CADRE. The FAQ section has more information about the range of safeguards CADRE uses to support the safety and security of the data and the confidentiality of young people.
Important: CADRE will be launching later in the year. Currently it doesn’t hold any data and is not being used. If you don’t want us to include your/your child’s data when we launch, please contact us.
What it means for your care
If you opt out, this means that your personal data, or your child’s, won’t be used for health and care research. Your confidential patient information can still be used by healthcare professionals and clinicians involved in your care, so you don’t need to worry that your (or your child’s) individual health, education and social care would be affected if you decide to opt-out.
